The UK is exploring whether and how to implement Remote ID (RID). This system enables a drone in flight to provide identification and location information that can be received by other parties. Any roll out will involve implementing the regulation and technology to enable RID and enable authorised parties to have access to RID data.
It is currently estimated that implementation of RID would take 18-24 months. The project is currently in the design phase until September 2023.

The force's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Kim McGuinness said the devices would be available at all times, with two of the drones able to fly in challenging weather conditions.
Initially three officers have had pilot training, with a further 16 expected to be ready by the end of November.
